Recreation Specialist
Responsible to plan, organize, and implement leisure service activities for Link consumers. Assist with participant's assessment, programs, community evaluation and program evaluation administration. This position will support Highland Park program as a both a Leisure Specialist and a direct care professional.
Qualifications:
Graduate from accredited college or university with a BA/BS in Therapeutic Recreation or related field. Must have an ability to develop and implement recreation activities for people with a wide range of ages and abilities. Must demonstrate enthusiasm, independence and possess the ability to work effectively in a team atmosphere and communicate with people with disabilities, co-workers, member agency staff, parents, educators, board of directors, vendors and community personnel. Ability to create and maintain a team approach in accomplishing the goals of the agency is a must. Certification by the Crisis Prevention Institute is required or must be obtained. CTRS certification or ability to obtain certification is strongly preferred.
Job Purpose:
To plan, implement and evaluate programs for people with disabilities, including fitness, sports and Special Olympics, as well as other seasonal activities. Responsibilities include budgeting, publicity and report writing and promotions specific to Athletics and Fitness. On-going involvement in agency programming and special events.
Summary of Duties:
Assisting with the organization, implementation and evaluation of fitness, sports and Special Olympics provided by NSSRA, and other projects. Work with the Manager of Cooperative Programs to complete and maintain all reports, files and paperwork necessary in the program area. Assist in recruiting, hiring and training seasonal recreation staff and volunteers. Conduct orientations and trainings for agency staff and outside agencies. Develop, implement, evaluate and follow through on behavior plans, and assist the Manager of Cooperative Programs in conducting observations of participants and programs as requested. Assist in problem solving related to programs and Special Olympics. Attend meetings, in-service trainings, conferences and professional development opportunities and conduct related educational sessions as necessary.

Highland Leisure Services Specialist/Direct Care Provider (Full Time)
Responsible to plan, organize, and implement leisure service activities for Link consumers. Assist with participant's assessment, programs, community evaluation and program evaluation administration. This position will support Highland Park program as a both a Leisure Specialist and a direct care professional.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field required with a minimum of two (2) years related successful work experience. NCTRC certification or completion within six (6) months preferred. Exceptions must receive prior approval from the Executive Director.
Must meet agency policy on transportation and background checks.
Possess ability to work on a daily basis utilizing standard office, home, and recreational equipment.
Proven proficient ability to use independent judgment, analytical/decision-making skills, verbal and written communication skills, human relation skills, team working skills, and organizational skills.
Position will contain medium physical work consisting of exertion of up to seventy (50) pounds of force occasionally, exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force frequently and exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally to move objects. This position consists of a combination of sitting, standing, or walking.
Salary Range based on education.
